Jon Trickett is the current MP for the Hemsworth constituency which includes Crofton. Jon was first elected to the constituency through a by-election in 1996 and has represented the constituency to this day. He is a Labour Party MP and forms part of the Shadow Cabinet, holding the roles of Lord President of the Council and Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office since February 2017. The website for Jon Trickett can be found here.

Crofton is in the ”Yorkshire and the Humber” constituency of the European Parliament, which is elected by the proportional representation voting method. There are 6 MEPs which represent the area. The current representatives (Linda McAvan; Timothy Kirkhope; Richard Corbett; Jane Collins; Amjad Bashir and Mike Hookem) were elected on 22 May 2014 for a period of 5 years.

As a result of the referendum vote of June 2016 to leave the European Union, it is likely, or at least possible, that the UK will cease to have any representation in the European Parliament after March 2019. The next elections would have been due in May 2019.
